Therapeutic Massage

MATTHEW STEERE IS A LICENSED MASSAGE THERAPIST

His specialty is body reading in order to maximize your mobility.  What this means is that his work can improve body posture, and actively works on holding patterns that cause discomfort in your daily life.  Matt’s business in therapeutic massage is to increase body awareness, relieve chronic pain, and improve overall well being.

DO YOU NEED MASSAGE THERAPY?

If you have a job that requires repetitive motion or simply sitting at a desk all day, you’ve probably built up holding patterns and routines that affect your health.  Common symptoms would be lower back pain, hunched forward shoulders, wrist pain, and tension headaches.  In all of these examples, massage therapy can be beneficial to improving your daily life.

Masking is optional for clients and I will continue to mask if I have concerns about my own exposure.  If you have physical or health concerns with this please discuss this with me in advance.

About Matthew

Matthew has been practicing therapeutic massage since 2009 and has taught massage professionally for four years.  He has worked with a wide variety of populations, and has extensive experience working with clients who have cancer, chronic pain, autoimmune disorders, and other challenging pathologies.

Matthew’s massage practice welcomes clients across the LGBTQ+ community.  This is a hate free zone.

With an extensive background in movement based practices including dance, martial arts, and weight training, Matthew takes that experience into his work to best provide support for his clients.

When not working, he’s teaching silly faces and dance moves to his daughter and making pots of coffee for his wife.

SWEDISH MASSAGE

Ideal for a first-time massage client, or individuals who are looking for a less intense, relaxing session. Swedish Massage involves the use of lighter techniques including longer gliding strokes, kneading strokes, compression, vibrational techniques, and percussive techniques to relax tense musculature.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

Ideal for releasing chronic holding patterns, working with specific muscular pain, and increasing body awareness through muscle education.  Deep tissue massage involves deep lengthening strokes, individual muscle spreading strokes, and muscle septum separation.  May be a more intense experience, however properly performed deep tissue massage should NOT be painful.

ONCOLOGY MASSAGE

For people currently experiencing cancer treatment or in remission, this style of massage requires special training and knowledge for the massage therapist.  Due to medical intervention the body requires special consideration to safely receive massage therapy.  Matthew is well trained and experienced in oncology massage, and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

ASSESSMENT TIME:

For each massage there is an additional 20-30 minute assessment time (usually 10-15 minutes before, and 5-10 minutes after the massage).  This is at no additional cost

MOBILE MASSAGE WORK:

You will need approximately 9′ x 10′ of floor space for Matt to set up his massage table.  Mobile service is available within a 30 minute drive from Matt’s massage facility.  Please call or e-mail if you have questions about distance and availability.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

Please allow a minimum of 24 hour notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a massage appointment.  You can call or text Matthew Steere (contact info below) to provide notice.  Without 24 hour notice there will be a 50% cancellation fee.

RATES AND SERVICES

Not sure what kind of massage you want or need?  The massage treatment that will work best for you depends on your goals, past experience with massage, and current health and wellness.  Please contact Matthew Steere with any questions you may have.

There is a $20 fee applied for mobile work.  If you are physically unable to use my treatment space this fee will be waived.

Rates listed are for hands-on massage time.

Matt uses a payment sliding scale.  This means that you decide where on the scale to pay, depending on ability and how much you believe the work is worth.  Please feel free to ask Matt if you have any questions about this sliding scale; the purpose is to make massage more accessible to those who may not otherwise be able to afford it, and to ensure you’re 100% satisfied with the work.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Intake:

This is when we discuss your goals for the massage.  We do a quick review of your health history to make sure you receive a safe and effective session.  We will then create a session plan for the hands on time to ensure you get the massage you want!

Hands On Time:

The actual body-work portion of the session.  Depending on the nature of the massage you want, the massage therapist will leave the room so you can undress down to an appropriate level.  (And just so you know, this may involve dressing down to your underwear.)  If you are not comfortable with this, we can modify the session to meet your needs.

The Outtake:

The therapist will leave the room so you can redress, and will come back to discuss the effects of the massage.  This is just an exchange of feedback, where you can say how you felt the massage went, and the therapist can show you any progress made during the session.  If desired, the therapist will recommend stretches or future treatment plans to assist in your goals.

Payment and Scheduling:

If you wish to reschedule again to continue working on long term problems, the easiest and most efficient way is to set it up at the end of your session.

Note:  Therapeutic massage is non-sexual.  If at any point in time you feel that a massage therapist is behaving inappropriately around sexual boundaries you have the right to immediately end the session.  Similarly, if your therapist feels that you are behaving inappropriately around sexual boundaries, the therapist will end the session immediately.

“The biggest thing we do is educate.  We assist people to understand what it is they do during the course of a normal day that may be causing their discomfort.”  -Matthew Steere
